What Would You Do?

We just got back from the grocery store. And I thought we were on an episode of that ABC show, “What.Would.You.Do?” where an undercover camera records people’s reactions to obnoxious situations…like a rich guy stealing a dollar from a homeless guy’s pot to buy a cup of coffee from a place that only took cash.

We were passing by a 4 year old alone in a cart who was throwing boxes of Rice.A.Roni off of a display onto the floor. I immediately gave him the “Mom” look of what in the heck are you doing? But I remembered that Miles acts out when he doesn’t get any attention too. This kid was there with his Mom, Grandma, and 17-20 year old sister. They were all off doing their own thing when the sister noticed what he was doing. She turns around and wallops him about 5 or 6 times. I’m not talking a smack of the hand or a pop, but a full out arm waving slap wherever she could make contact. His arm, head, chest. Then yells at the top of her lungs, “WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? MAKING A DAMN MESS LIKE THAT.” Then starts in on a 2nd walloping. As we are passing by her with our cart, my mouth open wide in disbelief…

She closed fist punches him IN THE JAW. TWICE. The kid is 4 years old!!! He immediately grabs his face and starts crying. Then the rest of his “family” comes over and starts yelling more.

We made it to the next aisle and we are both flabbergasted. Dean didn’t see the face punch because he was guiding the cart around the corner. But I said (loudly because they were still standing there) She just punched that kid in the face!

Dean is livid and tries to get out his video on his phone in case she does it again. But the moment has passed. Instead, he goes up to her and as loud as he can say asks, “Did you just punch this kid in the face?”

No I didn’t.
My wife says you did.
Well I didn’t hit him in the face. (kid still holding HIS FACE.)
Well you better not have because that is completely uncalled for. He’s just a kid.

What is wrong with people? This was her KID BROTHER.

One day they’ll wonder why he’s locked up in prison for assault….
