Swing Lo, Sweet Chariot….

I have no idea why that ^^^^^^song came to mind when I thought of swingsets….

So we decided for Miles’ “big” birthday present, we’re getting him a swingset. He ADORES being outside. Loves slides and swings and climbing around. We want one of those big giant wooden jobbies. The things that last a lifetime.

We had plans to go look at them at various places last weekend. I had also already asked my sister and parents to go in with us on the cost – since they can be upwards of $2K. WAY upwards, but still….our neighbors have like the Taj Mahal of swingsets so we might have swingset envy. a little.

Anyway, while talking to a friend over the weekend, he said his sister has a big one like that for her kids. Only her kids don’t really play on it too much anymore and they are moving from the house where this swingset resides (in San.Antonio) to Houston, probably over the summer (Dad has a new job in Houston and already living here.) He said we should get with her and see what they plan on doing with it – if anything.

Several texts and pics later, this is the deal. It is a really good quality swingset (I forget the company name) and they bought a maintenance plan (Daddy not so handy). They have it serviced every year – tighten bolts, replace boards, seal/stain. It’s about 7 years old. The mom said “it needs some repair.” But all she meant by that was tightening of bolts (didn’t come out last year) and replace the tarp on the fort (you can see the tear below).

I was on the fence about buying him a “used” present as large as this. But it cuts our cost WAY down. They initally paid $2400 for it and are willing to sell it to us for $400. We obviously have to drive to SA to break it down and bring back home, but since when has a few hundred miles ever stopped us before?

Here are the pics. Tell me if you think it’s worth it. $400, 7 years old. Paid $2,400 originally.

The fort with a sandbox below. Can see the tarp tear here.

I really like the ramp for Miles to use before he can climb the ladder by himself.

Like the wooden see-saw thingy :)

It's really not as wide as it seems so it will fit in the yard.

That is an AMAZING deal! Miles won’t know it’s “used”…all he’ll know is that Mom and Dad are the coolest people for getting him that. Now I may have swingset envy!
