  • Dean got paid $200 for doing the director’s band gig on Saturday. Thought I was going to get myself a shopping spree out of it. HA! He’s buying a new trumpet case. Because the old one – it’s an actual case, like a brief case, but bigger – and made for carrying trumpets. It’s 30+ years old and one of the clasps is broken. It’s held together by BUNGEE CORDS. I think its embarrassing, but he’s all “it’s a man’s case.” Finally stopped carrying it and puts the horn in his smaller leather-made for 1 horn only case – and his mutes and music in his LAPTOP BACKPACK. VERY professional…
  • Speaking of band, he is going to switch bands next fall. His chops are so well now that he feels that playing with this particular band is dragging him down or he’s constantly having to pull them up. Another buddy is director at another (CLOSER) junior college with a much more professional, better quality band so he’s moving there. Also might pick up a gig or 2. I want him to keep it up. He’s awesome and like the only LEAD trumpet player in town that’s worth a crap. And no that’s not my biased wife opinion either.
  • Miles got his first skinned knee on Tuesday. Photo on the camera. But we went for a walk around the neighborhood and then playing in the front yard. He’s crazy obsessed with pushing things everywhere and takes off pushing the stroller! I had to guide him on the sidewalk, then crossed the cul-de-sac to come back home and fell in the street. Cried for about 8 seconds, then back to walking. Mommy cried a little when I had to put peroxide on it…
  • Went to our S.outh.B.elt.Cook.off.meeting last night. Might be the last year this cookoff exists to support the S.outh.B.elt July.4th.fireworks. The county is giving us all kinds of flack, making us (the committee – HOSTS of the event) pick up the teams’ trash vs. having probationers do it, charging for cop security, saying we have to cancel if there is a forecast of rain…hello April SHOWERS? because they are afraid of messing up their newly sodded soccer field…really…what do you expect when you put trailers and tents and 65 drunk BBQ teams on a soccer field?? Looking for a new cause to support with the cookoff next year…and a new cookoff name. Anyone in the Houston area have a non-profit we could raise money for by cooking brisket, ribs, beans, cook’s choice, and margaritas?
  • Chocolate froggy pops for Miles’ party bagged, tagged, and ribboned – CHECK!
  • Photo banner for party – CHECK!
  • Happy Birthday Miles banner for party – CHECK!
  • RSVP’s received so I know how big of a cake/cupcakes/cookies to make? UGH. Why do people not RSVP?
  • Need to order the balloons.
  • No games or crafts for a 1 year old party, right? Went to one a while back and there were older kids there, but it still seemed a little crazy.
  • Going to Pancakes with the Easter Bunny this Saturday at our town center. Then thinking of driving through the hill country to take some pics of the boy surrounded by bluebonnets! It’s a Texas thing, you wouldn’t understand! :-P   Maybe a winery hop or 2 as well….
  • Easter plans? Well….hhmm…not going to Hollie’s this year, especially since its Miles’ 1st. We want to do something with family – specifically the grandparents -as in, his ONLY grandparents. (Dean’s have been deceased for years BK – Before Kim.) Only they didn’t even ask us if we wanted to get together. Found out they are going to Easter at sister’s MIL’s – like they have done the past couple years. She lives in a townhouse and they do it with ALL of BIL’s family (we are NOT related, remember? Your in-laws do not make them family to ME) and they do it in the townhouse clubhouse. Then the entire townhouse community has an egg hunt, which in itself would be fun, but come on…I don’t do major holiday functions with people who are not my family at “family” named functions! We feel like outsiders. Dean also didn’t want to go to Hollie’s because last year he was feeling left out because he only knows like 6 people there – me, Shay, Hollie, her husband, Shea and David. And there are lots more people there. And they all know the 20 other people so he doesn’t get to talk to many people. Maybe next year. Because you know next year the grandparents will be at sister’s MIL’s again since she’ll have a baby by then…UGH
  • Anyway, I sent Dad an email asking him if they could change plans and come do lunch at our house and hunt eggs with their ONLY GRANDSON and that it hurt my feelings that they didnt’ even ask to see him. And that I remember all those Easter’s at MY grandma’s (his mom) house with everyone there…He said he would talk to Mom and see what she thought. He said MIL’s was late lunch @ 2 so maybe they could “work something out” and see us before that. GEEZ. how thoughtful. He still hasn’t got back to me on what they can do and this was on Monday.
  • Random, as I was typing this my phone rang and caller id said it was sister at work. She says, “Dad called me and said ya’ll weren’t going to your friends house  for Easter this year.” then explains all that I explained above about clubhouse and who’s coming and egg hunt, etc. “Do ya’ll want to come? I thought I’d ask again. You don’t have to stay very long.” “No thanks.” This means that Dad can’t decide what to do and instead of just telling me never mind, they can’t do anything, he called HER to tell HER to invite ME again to something he is already aware of that I don’t want to go to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can’t they all understand that we don’t belong to that family and do not want to be included in THEIR FAMILY things????????

  1. This is some complicated family dynamics. Your party plans sound delightful.
My best to you for a Great Easter.
Congrats to Deano on his music, Fabulous!!

  2. Shayla says:

Yes good luck on your easter plans!
And I believe last year there was much more people that you know – I know everyone you do!
Shay, David, Hollie, Bo, Mitch, Terry, Mom, Shelley, Kurstee, Melanie, Tony, Rosanna, Heather, etc etc – that you both know – but I understand –
Good luck on finding your new Easter tradition!
It should totally be a family thing!
I just tend to call my friends family because that is all I have.

    XOXO
    Shayla

  3. Steph says:

Drama filled week for you. Ditto Shay- Good Luck w/ Easter & trying to start your new traditions.

    Yeah for Deano.

    Boys are so tough!

No games at a 1yr old bday. Too much already to orchestrate.

Your dad can be such a wimp!
